The Missy Mahjong hand is always bejeweled. A classy manicure, clean moisturized hands and at least one statement ring is essential when I play. This is a dexterous game with our fingers always on display. This is the hobby that begs for a signature ring!
Works of art
Jewelry is art. Whether is a simple twisted gold band or a diamond encrusted gemstone or even just a trendy piece from a boutique, rings are art.

Similarly to the mahjong set we buy, the jewelry we wear reflects our personal style. The mahjong ring is a form of self expression. It can be a hefty silver ring with a turquoise stone to coordinate with the Southwestern themed tiles from My Fair Mahjong. It can be a simple thin band to reflect the Minimal Line from The Mahjong Line. It can be a candy colored pink sapphire to match the pretty Oh My Mahjong Taylor Tiles.

Power Stones
Before I started playing mahjong, I collected big baubles. I called these rings my “power stones.” Instead of selecting the rings for color, I choose them for the “power” they bring to me.
I am a Sagittarius, so the blue topaz is thought to bring me clarity and help calm me. I am a fire sign and blue topaz is thought to balance my emotions. The blue topaz is believed to help with the chakras of the throat. I don’t usually choose this stone solely on color.
When I wear my 27-carat blue topaz, it is to help me find the right words. If I am speaking or teaching or meeting new people, this is the power stone I will choose.

November birthstones are citrine and topaz. I have a large citrine that is supposed to help bring me good vibes. I like the citrine color for fall because it reminds me of Aspen trees. If I am headed to a new situation or a game that I need luck, I am going to pick the citrine for its power.
I started this collection of power stones in 2021 and have collected several. These gemstones all have different properties for different people. I choose to believe in the magic of my power stones, but even if it is completely nonsense, there is a story.
The family rock
I am adventurous and I like meeting new people, so one would assume I like change and challenge. That assumption would be wrong! I have experienced adversity and have often lacked stability, which “rocks” my world.

Our family motto is pressure makes diamonds. My husband gifts me with diamond jewelry every time we get through a tough situation. It’s tradition at this point and he is my rock. The diamond jewelry that I wear is a testament to how many pressure-filled life chapters we have survived as a family. If you ever want to know more about me, just ask about one of my diamonds.
Conversation starters
A mahjong ring is a great conversation starter. If you want to know more about a person, compliment them on their style and ask questions.
Do you remember the ring in Crazy Rich Asians? The ring that was on display as Eleanor Young made dumplings and shuffled the tiles had a story.

Friendships and connections are made at the mahjong table. For anyone that is looking to connect, wear a comment-worthy ring and start talking. Perhaps it was your grandmother’s engagement stone. Maybe it is a souvenir from the Nashville Antique and Garden Show. Or maybe it is a trendy piece a friend gave you and it reminds you of her. Whatever it is, these are pieces of art that have a story.
Mahjong connectors
I admit, my jewelry is over the top. I have been well gifted, and I have made collecting gems a hobby. When someone comments on one of my gigantic rings, I say “It’s a mahjong ring!”

Mentioning that I am wearing a mahjong ring gets different reactions. “A what ring?” will be from the person who has never heard of mahjong. “I need to get one!” is the response from the player who hasn’t invested in one or wants to buy something for their mother-in-law. “Mahjong! I want to learn to play that game someday,” will lead to a new friendship.
Show me your mahjong ring
The next time you are out shopping, be on the lookout for a mahjong ring. If you think something is too crazy to wear, think of me. I would tell you that it is an everyday ring! Tag me on insta with your ring or send me an email with your latest find. I can’t wait to see what shows up at the table while we shuffle the tiles.
