What are the tiles used in a game of American mahjong?

Missy Mahjong introduces the 152 tiles used in a standard game of American Mahjong. Whether you are playing with the NMJL card, the Marvelous Mah Jongg card or the Siamese card, these are the tiles needed to play American Mahjong.

A standard tile set in American mahjong (also spelled American Mah Jongg) often includes extra flowers, jokers and blanks. These should be taken out of the game if playing by the NMJL rules. 

American mahjong played according to the National Mah Jongg League rules as described in the official rulebook Mah Jongg Made Easy, uses 152 tiles. What exactly are the tiles used in a game of American Mahjong?

Three suits, with suit specific dragons:

  • Craks (red dragon)

  • Dots (White Dragon or Soap)

  • Bams (Green Dragon)

Neutral Tiles:

  • Winds

  • Flowers

  • Jokers
