Everyone is talking about AI. What will artificial intelligence will bring to the mahjong game? What will AI bring to our lives? I have already decided that the only AI that I am bringing to the live game table is authentic integrity.

Know yourself… and your opponent
In a world where anyone can be anything on Instagram, the game table shines a light on a player’s true self. A cheater will eventually get caught, an intense rule enforcer will set the tone, and a quick thinker will be able to pivot strategies.
There is no hiding your personality at the table.
Your kindness shows when you congratulate the winner. Your negative competitiveness shows when you react outraged to a loss. Your collaborative spirit shows when you are a good teammate.
Don’t copy strategy
AI offers shortcuts from what others have already put out there in the world. If you copy your teachers’ entire strategy, you are just regurgitating facts like AI does.
I always tell beginner mahjong players to complete the singles and pairs during the Charleston. Do I listen to my own advice? No, because as an advanced player, I am ready to play concealed hands in just the singles and pairs section. I need to complete singles and pairs long after the Charleston is done. I know best practices, but the true strategy is my own.
To be a good player, you must understand the psychology of your opponent, truly understand the rules of the game and pave your own path to victory with an innovative strategy that works for you.
To win, you need to practice authentic integrity.

Opt out of the algorithm and opt in to authentic integrity
Social media annoys me and it makes me feel badly about myself. I find the most annoying thing on the internet in 2026 is mahjong teachers featuring “unboxing” and posting photos of racks of winning hands. The algorithm sends me things that it thinks I should buy and slides posts from people that are “popular.” No thanks. I like to decide what I like and who I like all by myself.
Know yourself and know your game
Practicing your game strategies, whether online or in person, are the only way to improve your own game.
We all need to take back our own lives and opt in to authentic integrity.
Be creative. Read the statistics and think for yourself. Leave the AI for the online game play and the bots. Be authentic and play with integrity at the game table and beyond.
Let’s all truly understand the game.
