I like a certain aesthetic at my mahjong table. Modern tiles, statement jewelry and a classy manicure are essentials.

This might ruffle a few feathers, but I have some strong opinions about hand and nail etiquette. Healthy, natural nails are the preferred manicure at the Missy Mahjong table.
Healthy nails
A manicure doesn’t necessarily include polish. A healthy, unpolished manicure is pure elegance.
Look at any designer fashion advertisement. The models are often sporting unpolished but healthy and well-trimmed nails. A bare manicure with even and smooth edges is beautiful.

Keep your nails classy
Gel and dip and acrylic nails are tolerated at the table, but keep them classy. I shudder to think of how unhealthy the natural nail is underneath. What are you hiding with that thick coat of shellac?
I love an elegantly longer nail, but know when to draw the line on too long. As with any long nail, please be sure to keep the nails clean everywhere. I cringe when I see someone with old food under their fingernails!
Bold color is fine, but avoid anything too wild. Adults should just say no to any nail design. Keep those for the younger gals.
Do you know what is worse than no manicure? A chipped manicure. That saying has been in my ear since I was young and it still rings true today. There is nothing elegant about chipped polish.
Side note: My tween daughter loves to do anything that drives her mom bananas. Her straight As earn her the set of tips at the salon she has been begging to get. To really irritate me, she usually has them painted something crazy like electric blue. I hope she grows out of it soon!

Missy Mahjong’s preferred manicure
The perfect manicure at the mahjong table is always a healthy and polished nail in a classy color. My favorite timeless colors include Ballet Slippers by Essie, Funny Bunny or Big Apple Red by OPI and Touch of Love by Dazzle Dry.
If you don’t know about Dazzle Dry, you need to deep dive into why this is the best product on the market. This system is ideal for home manicures and dries in 5 minutes. Yes- nail polish that dries in FIVE MINUTES. Because of this incredible feature, it does dry out the natural nail. It is essential to remove the polish in between and give it a little time to be nourished with oils and creams.
Again, I think healthy and bare nails show true beauty. Just like you remove makeup from your face and sleep in just moisturizer, your nails need a break from polish.
Keep the length short or slightly longer than the tips of the fingers. When a nail breaks, it is time to cut them all down to even lengths at start again.
Washing your hands with plenty of warm, soapy water is the most important step before playing at the Missy Mahjong table. Just like the white dragon, think suds and soap!

Missy Mahjong 7 manicure essentials
Aquaphor- yes, slather this on bare, dry fingers and toes before bed. This will revive nails in any condition.
Solar Oil- add this oil to polished nails or bare nails to moisturize the cuticles. I keep this in my purse and in my cosmetic bag and in my kitchen junk drawer.
Japonesque nail trimmers- these are the best for trimming the nails. I have two sizes.
Emery board- a four-sided cube and a long emery board are always in my bathroom drawer.
Dazzle Dry nail system- I use everything in the Dazzle Dry system.
Dior Nail Crème- The absolute magic product to strengthen nails
Presoaked Polish remover pads- Keep extras in your purse, travel cosmetic bag and in the guest bathroom. So convenient.

The Missy Mahjong manicure is classy, clean and healthy.
These opinions are my own and completely editorial. I do not collect any advertising dollars for my thoughts on my tips for a Missy Mahjong manicure. Let me know what you think of the perfect manicure at the mahjong table- missymahjong@gmail.com
